Bicycle Rodeo Event

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, the STRIDE Center participated in the annual UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital Bicycle Rodeo and Safety Fair. Over 200 children participated in a bicycle obstacle course and were fitted with a free helmet. At the STRIDE booth, run by the Center’s K-12/Workforce Development Coordinator Ondine Wells, kids and their parents were challenged to test their visual and auditory reaction times using an online game. Kids learned how reactions times are often faster with our ears than with our eyes. Kids and parents then took a pledge to be safe by not wearing earbuds while bicycling or using a cell phone while driving.  STRIDE is the UFTI’s U.S. Department of Transportation grant-funded regional (Southeastern) University Transportation Center (UTC).
