Florida T2 Center Marks 31 Years as Florida’s LTAP Center

The University of Florida continues its legacy of leadership in local technical assistance through the continuation of the LTAP grant award. The Federal Highway Administration awards each state a Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) grant to support local transportation needs. The UF Transportation Technology Transfer (T2) Center has had the privilege of administering this grant since it was originally introduced to Florida in 1984. This month, the UF T2 Center was again awarded the grant, marking 32 years that the center has supported Florida’s local agencies with these grant funds.

With the award of LTAP funds, the T2 Center offers support to local agencies in many areas, from training and technical assistance to equipment loans. Just in the last three years, the grant offset the cost of training to over 2,300 local-agency participants for more than 23,000 hours of training.

With this new award, T2 will further expand its course offerings and online trainings to local agencies, increase its equipment loaner program, develop a portal and training to help agencies identify local funding sources for transportation improvements, and collaborate with more partner agencies to leverage resources to meet local needs.

“Florida LTAP and the T2 Center have built a strong foundation for accelerating research into practice through training and technical assistance efforts,” said T2 Center Director Maria Cahill. “It has been a great program to help local agencies with scarce resources advance transportation in their communities, and now we plan on making it even bigger and better for Florida’s local agencies!”

The T2 Center intends to use its many years of service and support to Florida’s transportation agencies to continue its contribution to increasing safety on Florida’s road network.
