Each year at the Transportation Research Board’s Annual Meeting, the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)  honors the most outstanding student from each participating University Transportation Center (UTC) for his or her achievements and potential in the transportation field.

University of Florida Ph.D. student Clark Letter has been selected as the Southeastern Transportation Research, Innovation, Development and Education (STRIDE) Center Student of the Year for 2015. The STRIDE Center is a regional (Southeastern) UTC headquartered at the University of Florida, and it conducts transportation-related research in the areas of safety, livable communities and economic competitiveness.

A long time Florida Gator, Letter holds both an undergraduate and master’s degree in civil engineering from UF. As a student in the transportation program, he has conducted research in relation to variable speed limits, fuzzy logic ramp metering, probability of breakdown, and automated vehicle control. Through the STRIDE center, Letter has also worked together with fellow consortium members at Florida International University to investigate Active Transportation and Demand Management strategies to reduce probability of vehicle breakdown.
