Workshop Program

Presentation 1:  Game Day Traffic Management
(This presentation will cover the many aspects that the City of Gainesville is involved in for game day traffic management.)

Speaker & Bio: Matt Weisman, P.E., M.S., Hoffmann, Weisman & Associates; Matthew Weisman is the former City of Gainesville Traffic Operations Manager. He began working for the City of Gainesville in 2006 and was their project manager for the $18.2 million state of the art county-wide traffic management system. The project was a partnership funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, the University of Florida, the City of Gainesville, and Alachua County. Matthew completed his Bachelors in Civil Engineering in 2007, and his Masters in 2009, both from the University of Florida. He left the City in 2014 to pursue his own consulting firm, Hoffman, Weisman & Associates.

Presentation 2:  Kyle Field Game Day Transportation Plan: 20,000 More Fans, No More Congestion
(A $485 million expansion of Kyle Field increased capacity from 83,000 seats to 106,300 over one off-season.  The Texas A&M Transportation Institute was directed to develop a transportation plan that both accommodated this larger crowd and provided the 12th Man with a better gameday experience.  Engaging partners from on-campus and in the community, TTI coordinated new traffic, shuttle and pedestrian plans, and increased communication channels to manage traffic as well as make guests aware of dining, hotel and entertainment options during the weekend.)

Speaker & Bio: Tim Lomax, P.E., Ph.D., Senior Research Engineer, Texas Transportation Institute; Tim Lomax is a Regents Fellow with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute.  He has been involved in urban mobility research for more than 35 years, and more importantly, as a participant in A&M football traffic for 40 seasons.  He leads a team of researchers and communications specialists who describe mobility challenges and solutions to a wide range of audiences from legislative and civic to technical. He is the 2009 recipient of the Theodore M. Matson Memorial Award for outstanding contributions in the field of traffic engineering. He and his wife Jeannine have one son, Geoff, a Business and Economics graduate of Hendrix (AR) College.  Geoff was a pitcher for the Hendrix Warriors and went pro in Accounting in 2012.
