3rd Annual UTC Conference for the Southeastern Region

Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual UTC Conference for the Southeastern Region which will take place March 26-27, 2015. This year, the conference will be hosted by the University of Alabama – Birmingham in collaboration with Mississippi State University.

Comparing Methods for Measuring Travel Time at Florida Freeways and Arterials

Travel time is an indicator of the operational quality of highway facilities, therefore, it is important to make sure current methods are accurate and reliable. This study, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, evaluated the accuracy of available data from various travel time measurement methods currently in use. [read more]

Determining the Best Driving Range for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles

With growing public concern over greenhouse gas emissions and the environment, the use of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles is one way to curb our appetite for oil and lower traffic emissions. A study at UF focused on finding the most optimal driving range for these hybrid electric cars while at the same time minimizing costs to the user, the environment and the government. [read more]

New Semester, New Students

The UFTI ushered in the Fall 2014 semester with new graduate students. Many of these students will be working on sponsored research related to the UFTI and its affiliated centers. [read more]

Graduate Fellowships

The UFTI has graduate fellowships available for Fall 2015 for new students entering a Ph.D. program. Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. [read more]

4th Annual WTS Transportation Symposium

The WTS Florida Gator Student Chapter at UF is hosting its annual Transportation Symposium on November 13, 2014, at the Arredondo Cafe, UF campus. The theme this year is on “The Future of Transportation”. Guest speakers include transportation professionals from the public and private sectors. RSVP is required. [read more]

Technology Transfer

Florida Bike-Ped Safety Summit

The Florida Bike-Ped Safety Summit will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014, from 1 pm to 4 pm at Gainesville’s Historic Train Station. The event will be held in conjunction with the Gainesville Cycling Festival, October 24-25, 2014. Two UFTI affiliates are presenters at this event: Chris Ledew, director of T2 and Dr. Ruth Steiner, professor of Urban and Regional Planning. 

Florida T2 Center Promotes Updated Child Restraint Law

Promotional materials were created recently at the Florida OPRC housed at the UFTI T2 Center, to help Child Passenger Safety (CPS) advocates and state enforcement inform Florida citizens of an updated Florida statute affecting children. [read more]
