Dr. Siva Srinivasan Assumes New Position at UFTI

On March 2, Dr. Lily Elefteriadou, Director of the UF Transportation Institute announced that Dr. Siva Srinivasan, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, would assume the newly created position of Associate Director of UFTI beginning March 3, 2023.

Dr. Srinivasan’s immediate focus will be on the new educational initiatives of the UFTI. He is currently spearheading the establishment of a new graduate concentration called “Transportation Leadership.” This online master’s degree program is aimed at working professionals in the field of transportation who aspire to become leaders in their organizations. He has developed the course “Fundamentals of the Transportation Profession” which will serve as the gateway class for the leadership concentration. Dr. Srinivasan will also be coordinating other educational initiatives (including certificates, joint degrees, and new programs) related to transportation. Dr. Srinivasan said, “Lifelong learning is critical for professional growth, and I am very excited to lead UFTI’s efforts in this direction”. He added, “Working with students is the most fulfilling aspect of being in academia and I am glad that I will get to interact with a larger and more diverse student group with the new initiatives.”

“The new position we created recognizes the excellent work he has already done to strengthen transportation-related educational programs at UF and positions the UFTI for further growth in education-related initiatives,” Dr. Elefteriadou added.

Dr. Srinivasan has been a member of UFTI’s internal steering committee since its inception in 2013 and a faculty member at UF since 2005. His research interests are in transportation safety and travel behavior analysis. He develops experimental and statistical methods to address multi-modal safety issues using crash data and surrogate measures and he builds analytical models using statistical and machine learning techniques to describe travel choices and predict travel demand. He leads UFTI’s safety research group and has been an active member of the human factors and data analytics groups. He holds a Ph.D. and MSE in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
