Dr. Ruth Steiner, University of Florida (UF) Professor of Urban and Regional Planning and Director of the Center for Health and the Built Environment was interviewed recently by Matthew Peddie of WUSF Public Media about the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Authority’s (TBARTA) decision to dissolve itself.

Although TBARTA was formed 16 years ago and has had some accomplishments, its work has become stymied due to a lack of funding and a lack of consensus between the municipalities that make up the group.

In 2012, Steiner studied the issue of regional transportation and the need for a coordinated plan and still recommends such a plan. Additionally, she recommends learning from other parts of the United States who have achieved successful regional transit plans.
