Siddhartha Gulhare is a Ph.D. candidate under Dr. Siva Srinivasan in Civil & Coastal engineering. Gulhare was one of 38 students named as a 2022 Lifesavers Traffic Safety Scholars. After a competitive application process the recipients were awarded of a $1,000 scholarship to help defray the cost to attend the conference held in Chicago on March 12-15. The Lifesavers Conference showcases the latest research, evidence-based strategies, proven countermeasures, and promising new approaches for addressing the nation’s most pressing traffic safety problems.
This was the seventh year of the Traffic Safety Scholars program, which provided college students the opportunity to attend the Lifesavers Conference, the largest gathering of traffic safety professionals in the U.S. The program’s goals was to showcase the diversity of opportunities in traffic safety and encourage students, regardless of discipline, to pursue a career in a dynamic field that draws from a variety of disciplines from engineering, education and enforcement to communications, business, marketing, medicine, public health, political science, counseling, and more. The Lifesavers TSS Program pays scholarships to help full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of fields defray the cost of attending the nation’s largest gathering of traffic safety professionals. “It was a great experience to listen to the various challenges faced by traffic safety professionals and first responders. I realize understanding their perspectives can help me make small contributions within my role to help them improve traffic safety solutions”, said Gulhare
