The Institute for Mobility, Activity, and Participation Team Presents at the American Occupational Therapy Association Conference

The Department of Occupational Therapy’s Institute for Mobility, Activity and Participation (I-MAP) team presented at the annual American Occupational Therapy Association Conference held this April in Salt Lake City, Utah. This conference promotes scholarship and professional development among occupational therapists and occupational therapy students across the nation. The I-MAP team took this opportunity to present their current scientific work through short courses, scientific research panels, and poster sessions. Team presentations highlighted the following topics: (1) interim findings from a Department of Defense-funded effectiveness trial of a simulator-based occupational therapy driving intervention for returning combat veterans; (2) application of grounded theory model to understand combat veterans’ driving difficulties, strategies, and intervention preferences; (3) 10-year development of the Fitness-to-Drive Screening Measure for identifying at-risk older drivers; and (4) potential opportunities and challenges with vehicle automation for older drivers, including an overview of a scoping review and clinical relevance to occupational therapy.
