UF Research Group Wins the Stella Dafermos Best Paper Award

Congratulations to University of Florida students  Zhibin Chen and Zhengtian Xu, UF Alumni Dr.  Mahmood Zangui and UFTI faculty member Dr. Yafeng Yin for winning the Stella Dafermos Best Paper Award at the Transportation Research Board’s 95th Annual Meeting.

About the Award

The award is offered every year for the best paper submitted for presentation and publication to the Transportation Network Modeling Committee of the Transportation Research Board. It is named after Professor Stella Dafermos (1940-1990), one of the most influential pioneers in transportation network modeling. Her research included new mathematical methods of analyzing congested transportation networks and proposed innovative techniques to find solutions to complex network equilibrium problems.

About the Paper

Paper Title: Analysis of Advanced Management of Curbside Parking

This paper analyzes drivers’ search behavior for curbside parking on a one-way street and develops analytical models to compare the impacts of parking information and reservation services. An agent-based simulation experiment is conducted to verify the results drawn from the analytical models. Results show that the reservation service can improve the performance of the parking system, while providing information may not. The former is proved to be a better policy than the latter in the particular setting of parking competition and search behaviors considered in this paper.
